Lower Trent Conservation
Did You Know?

Collectively, Conservation Authorities own and protect a total of 150,000 hectares, including forests, wetlands, areas of natural and scientific interest, recreational lands, natural heritage and cultural sites, as well as, land for flood and erosion control.

About Us

Lower Trent Conservation is accountable to the residents of the watershed through our Board of Directors appointed by the elected councils of the seven municipalities located either entirely, or partially, within the watershed region. This accountability, combined with local decision making, is a key strength that Lower Trent Conservation draws on as we work with our partners to address the region’s environmental challenges.

In response to requests from local communities, Lower Trent Conservation was formed in 1968 under the Conservation Authorities Act to protect, restore and manage water and other natural resources within the Lower Trent Conservation watershed region.

Since 1968, our work has contributed to building healthier communities, improving the quality of life for residents, making our area more appealing to visitors and new businesses, and helping to ensure a more vibrant regional economy. A brief overview of our programs and services can be found in our Corporate Brochure.

The world is changing rapidly – our climate, our environment, technology, and our legislative requirements. Our Strategic Plan (2018-2028) featuring our Vision and Mission statements below will guide the efforts of Lower Trent Conservation as it strives to respond to challenges and opportunities.
