There are areas of significant environmental concern that fall within the proposed corridors that will be shared with ALTO for their information and consideration. The Board of Directors has passed a resolution stating that they are not in favour of the proposed southern route for the high-speed train due to the potential of negative impacts to agricultural lands, environmentally sensitive lands, roads, and emergency services. In addition, they have asked for consideration for the high speed rail to be along the existing rail corridor.
RESOLUTION
THAT Lower Trent Conservation (LTC) staff circulate correspondence to ALTO indicating that the LTC Board of Directors does not support the proposed southern route for the high-speed train, in consideration for the potential of negative impacts to agricultural lands, environmentally sensitive lands, roads, and emergency services;
AND THAT ALTO consider the existing railway corridor for the proposed high-speed train, if it is demonstrated to be financially viable;
AND THAT LTC staff share environmental data and information to ALTO.
