Lower Trent Normal Water Condition
Lower Trent Conservation has lifted the Level I Low Water Advisory, which started in August of 2025 as Level I Low Water Condition and peaked, at its most severe, as a Level III Low Water Condition in September of 2025. Precipitation and stream flow conditions have improved greatly over the last 3 months of 2025. Overall, conditions have stabilized due to a return to seasonal precipitation amounts experienced as both rain and snow throughout the watershed.
The month of December saw higher levels of precipitation across the Lower Trent Conservation (LTC) watershed region compared to the September- November period. As a result, LTC has removed all Low Water Conditions, returning to normal conditions. This removes the previous declaration of a Level I Low Water Condition made on December 11, 2025.
The October to December 3-month precipitation total recorded by Environment Canada at Trenton was 267.1 millimeters, which is 103 percent of the Long-Term Average (LTA) precipitation for this time of year (258.1 mm). Monthly streamflow in all the subwatersheds across the LTC area have improved to over 100% of the Lowest Average Summer Month (LASM) flows, a continued improvement from drought conditions seen in the summer and fall months. These criteria indicate that both precipitation and stream flows no longer fall within the Ontario Low Water Response Program criteria for a level one drought condition
Lower Trent Conservation staff still urge rural residents to be cautious of their water use. Water is a precious resource – continued wise use of water is encouraged now and always.
Conservation Authority staff will continue to monitor conditions and report new information as it becomes available.
