Home Salt Best Practices Workshops

This workshop will cover the risks of road and sidewalk salt to the drinking water supply and the health of our waterways and groundwater. Learn about best practices for keeping your home driveways and walkways clear of snow and ice while reducing the amount of salt you use. You will be introduced to alternatives to salt used both at home and by municipalities across Canada and the United States, this will include making a jar of sand/salt mix to take home and get you started!

We are asking participants to bring an old mug they would like to turn into a salt scoop. We will provide materials to add to the mug including a label with helpful tips and will be creating some easy fill lines to help make salt measurements easy at home.

This workshop will help set you up for success in your winter snow clearing by giving you the facts and tools needed to salt safe and smart!
