Lower Trent Conservation advises municipalities and the public that a Flood Outlook Statement has been issued for the local creeks within the Lower Trent Watershed region (area stretching from Grafton to Quinte West and from Lake Ontario to east of Centre Hastings). It is important to note that during this time high flows and water levels, unsafe banks or other factors could be dangerous for recreational users and waterfront landowners. Nuisance flooding for some may occur within low lying and poorly drained areas.

It is important to note that this Flood Outlook statement only applies to the local creeks. A Flood Outlook statement was issued for the Trent River (Hastings to Trenton) on March 21, 2025, and is active until April 4, 2025, or until an update has been issued. This statement is intended to be directed to the local creeks as they are expected to fluctuate due to the forecasted precipitation this weekend.

A series of precipitation events are forecasted throughout the Lower Trent Watershed region starting today and are expected to continue over the course of the weekend and into Monday. The current forecast is showing varying degrees of precipitation which may range from 40-60 mm over the course of the weekend. Due to the fluctuating temperatures, freezing rain is expected with potential periods of snow or rain. Due to the current cold temperatures and frozen soil conditions, it is expected that our local creeks may see increased water levels and stream flows as a response to the expected rainfall. These higher flows throughout the local creeks may result in nuisance flooding in low-lying areas but widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time.

While the potential dangers presented by rivers, small streams and open ditches never cease to exist, they are of particular concern at this time of the year. Water currents are strong and temperatures dangerously cold. Parents and caregivers are advised to keep children and pets away from all waterways. Areas around dams, culverts and bridges should be avoided at all times.

Lower Trent Conservation monitors water levels and weather forecasts closely as part of its flood forecasting and warning program. Daily water level updates are available at www.LTC.on.ca. If you have concerns about water levels, please contact Lower Trent Conservation at (613) 394-4829. Anyone having concerns about water levels on the Trent River can contact Parks Canada (705)-750-4950 or [email protected].

This Flood Outlook Statement for the Trent River will be in effect until Tuesday, April 1, 2025 until 12pm or until an update has been issued.
