Nature Camp Was a Blast!

Summer time at Goodrich-Loomis Nature Camp has come to an end. Camp was a blast this summer! The weather was sunny and hot which didn’t stop campers and counsellors from exploring the creek and enjoying the cool shade of the forest. The GLNC crew are wrapping up all the summer fun and are excited to share their favourite moments at Summer Camp 2011.

Zephyr had great time on our field trip to Presqu’ile Provincial Park in August. “It was an awesome time away from camp for the day”. The field trip included a Nature Mystery Hike, and exploration of the Nature Centre and Lighthouse Museum. Zephyr also really enjoyed the shelter and fort building in the forest.

Coral was thrilled with the exciting guest speakers and learning about everything from hawks to reptiles to bees; each week there was a new, fun and exciting presentation. Her favourite by far was the Indian River Reptile Zoo, where she met “Chompsy” the alligator, “Speedy” the turtle, “Friendly” the Burmese Python. “Touching “Friendly” the snake was really neat, he was smooth and soft.”

River had a great first year at camp. Every week she looked forward to Creek Discovery; finding lots of cool Benthic Bugs in the creek. River also enjoyed all the guest speakers, of which her favourites were the Paddling Puppeteer and Colin and his K9 friend Tanner. “Colin showed us how well trained Tanner was at finding stuff, Tanner was able to find stuff from as little as a bullet in the grass to fish hidden in a bag!”

The crew at GLNC had a great summer, there was always things to do, games to play, new people to meet and things to discover. Zephyr, Coral and River hope to see you next year at GLNC!
